This document specifies a method for the determination of the microbiological resistance of geosynthetics by a soil burial test.

NOTE          Experience and exhumation of geosynthetics which had performed successfully, in some cases for more than two decades, indicate that geosynthetics made out of synthetic materials are generally resistant against microbial initiated decay. It can therefore be expected that most of these products commercially available at the present time will pass the soil burial test successfully and it is probably not necessary to submit them all to this test independent of their function. However, if the requirements for appropriate functioning of the geosynthetics demand proof of microbiological resistance or if they are manufactured from newly developed polymers whose resistance is in any doubt, the soil burial test should be performed.

This document specifies three methods for the determination of the permanent change in dimensions on heating of dense shaped refractory products.

NOTE          The method can be applied to materials sensitive to oxidation. However, some of these materials can be affected during the test in such a way as to make the measurement of the dimensional changes impossible to carry out to the required accuracy.

This International Standard specifies a test method to determine the degree and rate of aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials when settled on marine sandy sediment at the interface between seawater and the seafloor, by measuring the evolved carbon dioxide.

This test method is a simulation under laboratory conditions of the habitat found in different seawater/sediment-areas in the sea, e.g. in a benthic zone where sunlight reaches the ocean floor (photic zone) that, in marine science, is called sublittoral zone

The determination of biodegradation of plastic materials buried in marine sediment is outside the scope of this International Standard.

Measurement of aerobic biodegradation can also be obtained by monitoring the oxygen consumption, as described in ISO 18830.

The conditions described in this International Standard may not always correspond to the optimum conditions for the maximum degree of biodegradation to occur.

This document specifies requirements of fitness for purpose of the polyethylene (PE) piping system in the field of the supply of gaseous fuels.

It specifies the definitions of electrofusion, butt fusion and mechanical joints.

It specifies the method of preparation of test piece joints, and the tests to be carried out on these joints for assessing the fitness for purpose of the system under normal and extreme conditions.

It specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this document.

NOTE 1       This document is intended only to be used by the product manufacturer to assess the performance of components according to EN 1555-2, EN 1555-3, and/or EN 1555-4 when joined together under normal and extreme conditions in accordance with this document. It is not intended for on-site testing of pipe systems.

In conjunction with Parts 1 to 4 of EN 1555, it is applicable to PE pipes, fittings, valves, their joints and to joints with components of other materials intended to be used under the following conditions:

a)     a maximum operating pressure, MOP, up to and including 10 bar [1];

b)    an operating temperature of 20 °C as reference temperature.

NOTE 2       For other operating temperatures, derating coefficients can be used, see Annex A.

EN 1555 (all parts) covers a range of maximum operating pressures and gives requirements concerning colours and additives.

This document specifies the characteristics of valves made from polyethylene (PE) for piping systems in the field of the supply of gaseous fuels.

It is applicable to unidirectional and bi-directional valves with spigot end or electrofusion socket intended to be fused with PE pipes or fittings conforming to EN 1555-2 and EN 1555-3 respectively.

The PE spigot or electrofusion ends for valves made of material other than polyethylene is intended to be in accordance with EN 1555-3.

It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this document.

In conjunction with Parts 1, 2, 3 and 5 of EN 1555, it is applicable to PE valves, their joints and to joints with components of PE and other materials intended to be used under the following conditions:

a)     a maximum operating pressure, MOP, up to and including 10 bar [1] 2;

For the purpose of this document and the references to EN 28233, MOP is considered to be nominal pressure.

b)    an operating temperature of 20 °C as reference temperature;

NOTE 1       For other operating temperatures, derating coefficients can be used, see EN 1555-5.

c)     an operating temperature between −20 °C and +40 °C.

EN 1555 (all parts) covers a range of maximum operating pressures and gives requirements concerning colours and additives.

NOTE 1       For the purpose of this document and referring to ISO 17885, MOP can be considered to be nominal pressure.

—    PE pipes with co-extruded layers on either or both the outside and/or inside of the pipe (total outside diameter dn) as specified in Annex A, where all layers have the same MRS rating;

A coextruded pipe made of a combination of PE 100 and PE 100-RC layers shall be regarded as PE 100 and marked accordingly.

—    PE pipes (outside diameter dn) with a peelable, contiguous thermoplastics additional layer on the outside of the pipe (‘coated pipe’) as specified in Annex B.

This document describes a method for the determination of the boiling range distribution of petroleum products by capillary gas chromatography using flame ionization detection. The standard is applicable to crude oils. The boiling range distribution and recovery to C100 or C120 can be determined.

Two procedures are described: single and dual analysis mode. The basis of each is the calculation procedure as described in Annex A.

Procedure A (or Single analysis mode) determines the boiling range through C100 or C120 in a single analysis

Procedure B (or Dual analysis mode) combines procedure A with the boiling point distribution from C1 up to C9 using the Detailed Hydrocarbon Analysis (DHA) according EN 15199‑4. The results of both analyses are merged into one boiling point distribution.

NOTE 1       There is no specific precision statement for the combined results obtained by procedure B. For the precision of the boiling range distribution according to procedure B the precision statements of procedure A and EN 15199‑4 apply. No precision has been determined for the results after merging.

NOTE 2       For the purpose of this European Standard, the terms “% (m/m)” and “% (V/V)” are used to represent the mass fraction, µ, and the volume fraction, φ, of a material respectively.

This document describes the determination of boiling range distribution of materials with initial boiling points (IBP) below 100 °C and final boiling points (FBP) above 750 °C. For testing materials with initial boiling points (IBP) above 100 °C and final boiling point (FBP) below 750 °C, Part 1 of the standard may be used. For testing materials with initial boiling points (IBP) above 100 °C and final boiling point (FBP) above 750 °C, Part 2 of the standard may be used. Part 4 is used for the determination of the boiling range distribution of hydrocarbons up to n-nonane in crude oil.

This document specifies a method for determining the adhesion of a bituminous emulsion coated onto aggregate when immersed in water.

The method considers two different aspects of adhesivity, i.e. immediate adhesivity and water effect on binder adhesion.

The method may be used with a reference aggregate. In that case, it measures the intrinsic adhesion behaviour of a bituminous emulsion. The method may also be used with a specific aggregate as used on a job site.

It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods to which it refers.

ISO 16486 is applicable to PA-U piping systems the components of which are connected by fusion jointing and/or mechanical jointing.

In addition, it lays down dimensional characteristics and requirements for the marking of fittings.

In conjunction with the other parts of ISO 16486, it is applicable to PA-U fittings, their joints, to joints with components of PA-U and to joints with mechanical fittings of other materials, and to the following fitting types:

This document specifies a test method to determine the top layer delamination of multilayer parquet elements according to EN 13489 with different structures, dimensions and adhesives for internal use as flooring, at the time of the first delivery of the product.

The document specifies 2 pre-treatments (PT1 and PT2) of the test specimens.

The test methods described in this document allow to determine the minimum top layer bonding quality, also for the use application on floor heating, and for the identification of bonding failure.

NOTE 1       For this application, the pre-treatments have proven to be suitable.

This document does not apply to the bonding quality of plywood if it is in use in the multilayer parquet construction.

NOTE 2       This standard doesn’t allow to estimate the compatibility of use in wet conditions.
