This document specifies a test method for determining the presence of organotin compounds. This test method is applicable to all types of materials of textile products.

NOTE          CEN/TR 16741 defines which materials are applicable to this determination.

            This part of ISO 179 specifies a method for determining Charpy impact properties of plastics from force-deflection diagrams. Different types of rod-shaped test specimens and test configurations, as well as test parameters depending on the type of material, the type of test specimen and the type of notch are defined in Part 1 of ISO 179.

Dynamic effects such as load-cell/striker resonance, test specimen resonance and initial-contact/inertia peaks are described (see Figure 1, Curve b, and Annex A).

1.2     ISO 179-1 is suitable for characterizing the impact behaviour by the impact strength only and for using apparatus whose potential energy is matched approximately to the particular energy to break to be measured (see ISO 13802, Annex E). This part of ISO 179 is used if a force-deflection or force-time diagram is necessary for detailed characterization of the impact behaviour, and for developing automatic apparatus, i.e. avoiding the need, mentioned above, to match energy.

1.3     For the range of materials which may be tested by this method, see ISO 179‑1, Clause 1.

1.4     For the general comparability of test results, see ISO 179‑1, Clause 1.

1.5     The method may not be used as a source of data for design calculations on components. However, the possible use of data is not the subject of this part of ISO 179. Any application of data obtained using this part of ISO 179 should be specified by a referring standard or agreed upon by the interested parties.

Information on the typical behaviour of materials can be obtained by testing at different temperatures, by varying the notch radius and/or specimen thickness and by testing specimens prepared under different conditions.

It is not the purpose of this part of ISO 179 to give an interpretation of the mechanism occurring at every point on the force-deflection diagram. These interpretations are a task for on-going scientific research.

1.6     The test results are comparable only if the conditions of test specimen preparation, as well as the test conditions, are the same. Comprehensive evaluation of the reaction to impact stress requires that determinations be made as a function of deformation rate and temperature for different material variables such as crystallinity and moisture content. The impact behaviour of finished products cannot, therefore, be predicted directly from this test, but test specimens may be taken from finished products for testing by this method.

1.7     Impact strengths determined by this method may replace those determined using ISO 179‑1 if comparability has been established by previous tests.

ISO 10350 identifies specific test procedures for the acquisition and presentation of comparable data for certain basic properties of plastics. In general, each property is specified by a single experimental value, although in certain cases properties are represented by two values obtained under different test conditions or along different directions in the material. The properties included are those presented conventionally in manufacturers' data sheets. This part of ISO 10350 applies to reinforced thermoplastic and thermosetting materials where the reinforcement fibres are either discontinuous with a fibre length prior to processing greater than 7,5 mm or continuous (e.g. fabric, continuous-strand mat or unidirectional). Part 1 of this International Standard deals specifically with unreinforced and filled plastics, including those using fibres less than 7,5 mm in length

This European Standard specifies the minimum performance requirements in biological tests for products for curative uses against specific wood destroying organisms. It specifies the biological tests required together with the efficacy criteria to be achieved in each test.

Chemicals against insects can act according to their specific properties within a short time (fast acting) or only after a long period (slow acting or with a deferred effect). Different tests and efficacy requirements are needed for these various types of curative wood preservatives.

This European Standard is applicable to all wood preservative products supplied for application in liquid form for curative uses against attack by wood boring beetles. This European Standard is also applicable for products applied to prevent the growth of the dry rot fungus through masonry.

This European Standard is also applicable to products for curative uses supplied for application as pastes, solids or in capsule form but only where appropriate biological methods of test exist as published European Standards or as normative annexes to this European Standard.

NOTE 1       For re-testing after making variations in product formulation, guidance is given in Annex A.

NOTE 2       This standard is used as a reference document for the evaluation of efficacy of biocidal products PT8 (wood preservatives) in the framework of the European Regulation on Biocidal Products (EU) No 528/2012 (BPR).

This European Standard is not applicable to products used as fumigants.

This European Standard is also not applicable for determining whether specific curative products, used alone or in combination, are effective in conferring long-term protection against attack by wood destroying organisms. Preventive effectiveness can be determined using EN 599-1 but only for products that can be tested using the methods and interpretative procedures defined in EN 599-1.

Annex A (informative) contains a guidance on re-testing after making variations in product formulation.

Annex B (informative) contains some test recommendations for specific curative products against other insect species than Hylotrupes bajulus and Anobium punctatum.

Annex C (informative) contains a guidance for physical chemical properties.

Scope

This document describes simplified methods for taking samples of solid biofuels in small scale applications and storages including preparation of sampling plans and reports. The main focus is on storages with a size of ≤ 100 t. This document is applicable to the following solid biofuels:

—    fine (up to about 10 mm nominal top size) and regularly-shaped particulate materials that can be sampled using a scoop or pipe, e.g. sawdust, olive stones and wood pellets;

—    coarse or irregularly-shaped particulate materials (up to 200 mm nominal top size) that can be sampled using a fork or shovel, e.g. wood chips, hog fuel and nut shells;

—    large pieces (above 200 mm nominal top size) which are picked manually (e.g. firewood and briquettes);

This document can also be used for other solid biofuels not listed above if the procedures described in this document are applicable. This document specifies methods to be used, for example, when a sample is to be tested for moisture content, ash content, calorific value, bulk density, mechanical durability, particle size distribution, ash melting behaviour and chemical composition.

NOTE          If higher precision of analytical results is needed or when in doubt if this document is applicable ISO 18135 can be used.

This International Standard specifies the general characteristics of fibre ropes and their constituent materials. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the standards for the individual types of fibre rope, which cover the physical properties and specific requirements for that particular product type.

This International Standard also gives some information on the use of fibre ropes and also on their inspection and retirement criteria.

This International Standard does not intend to address all of the safety matters associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user to select a rope that is fit for purpose: of the size and with the physical properties to meet the requirements of the application and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to its use.

This International Standard describes a method for the accelerated conditioning of test specimens of polyamides and copolyamides. It is applicable to grades containing more than 2 % (m/m) extractables.

The equilibrium moisture content attained by this method is close to the equilibrium moisture content obtained in standard atmosphere 23/50. The values of mechanical properties obtained after accelerated conditioning in accordance with this method may differ slightly from those obtained after conditioning in standard atmosphere 23/50.

This document establishes a system of designation for thermoplastic polyester (TP) material, which can be used as the basis for specifications. It covers polyester homopolymers for moulding and extrusion based on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT), poly(cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate) (PCT), poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN), poly(butylene naphthalates) (PBN) and other TP-types and copolyesters of various compositions for moulding and extrusion.

The types of thermoplastic polyester are differentiated from each other by a classification system based on appropriate levels of the designatory properties:

a)     viscosity number;

b)    tensile modulus of elasticity;

and on information about the intended application and/or method of processing, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcing materials.

This designation system is applicable to thermoplastic polyester homopolymers and copolymers. It applies to materials ready for normal use in the form of powder, granules or pellets, unmodified or modified by colorants, fillers and other additives. This document does not apply to the saturated polyester/ester and polyether/ester thermoplastic elastomers covered by ISO 20029.

It is not intended to imply that materials having the same designation give necessarily the same performance. This document does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processing conditions which can be required to specify a material. If such additional properties are required, they are intended to be determined in accordance with the test methods specified in ISO 20028‑2, if suitable.

In order to designate a thermoplastic polyester material to meet particular specifications, the requirements are to be given in data block 5 (see 4.1).

This International Standard specifies, for ropes of different kinds, a method of determining each of the following characteristics:

linear density;

< >

lay length;

braid pitch;

< >

breaking force.

The linear density, lay length and braid pitch are measured with the rope under a specified tension called the reference tension, as specified in Annex A.

The elongation corresponds to the measured increase in length of the rope when the tension to which it is subjected is increased from an initial value (reference tension) to a value equal to 50 % of the minimum specified breaking strength of the rope.

The breaking force is the maximum force registered (or reached) during a breaking test on the test piece, carried out on a tensile testing machine with constant rate of traverse of the moving element. The breaking force values given in the tables of rope specifications are only valid when this type of testing machine is used.

When it is not possible to test the rope in full size, the method described in Annex B can be used, subject to agreement between the parties involved.

This International Standard also provides a method for measuring water repellence, lubrication and finish content, when requested by the customer.

This document gives a brief overview of each of the dynamic techniques which are described in detail in the following parts of ISO 6145. This document provides basic information to support an informed choice for one or another method for the preparation of calibration gas mixtures. It also describes how these methods can be linked to national measurement standards to establish metrological traceability for the composition of the prepared gas mixtures.

Since all techniques are dynamic and rely on flow rates, this first part of ISO 6145 describes the calibration process by measurement of each individual flow rate generated by the device.

Methods are also provided for assessing the composition of the generated gas mixtures by comparison with an already validated calibration gas mixture.

This document provides general requirements for the use and operation of dynamic methods for gas mixture preparation. It also includes the necessary expressions for calculating the calibration gas composition and its associated uncertainty.

Gas mixtures obtained by these dynamic methods can be used to calibrate or control gas analysers.

The storage of dynamically prepared gas mixtures into bags or cylinders is beyond the scope of this document.

This document specifies fundamental radiographic techniques with film which enable repeatable results to be obtained economically.

This document applies to the X-ray radiographic examination of heated tool, electrofusion, extrusion and hot gas joints in plastics materials.

It applies to joints in solid wall pipes and plates with a range of thicknesses from 5 mm to 100 mm. It only applies to pipes containing air or other gases at the time of X-ray testing.

This document does not specify acceptance levels of the indications.
